Old Malibu Road Beach

Old Malibu Road Beach

Good South Facing Beginner Dive Sites

Nice easy beach dive, especially nice at night since reefs are close to shore and entry point. A mostly south-facing sandy beach. Dive is about 25' deep. Public beach access gate is just past 24712 Malibu Rd. Go out about 100 yards from beach, drop down into sandy area in about 20' of water, head east and explore rocky areas. There are a few streetlamps right by the access gate, which makes night dives easier.

This is a residential area of Malibu that is serving owners and renters of the 200+ residences along our 2.5 mile stretch of Paradise – Malibu Road (aka Old Malibu Road), in Malibu, California.  Considered a Malibu City public beach, it is a stretch of beach between two areas off of PCH, Pacific Coast Highway, Malibu Beach to the north and Corral Canyon Road to the south.  Please respect the public and private beach areas with no trespassing. There is usually a lot of construction workers, and vehicles and locals walking along the road.  Obey the speed limits as they are serious about their solar-powered radar speed signs.  Pickup your trash and dispose of it properly.  Please no open fires or cigarette butts as this area is very dry and can spark a fire easily.

Old Malibu Road is also sometimes referred to as Jane Seymour Beach because her home is near by. She is the actress best known as the Bond girl in the James Bond film "Live and Let Die" and as the star of the American television series "Dr. Quinn, Medicine Woman" and its tele-film sequels. She is also the founder of the Open Hearts Foundation, which supports organizations that are committed to positively impacting lives in the areas of education, arts and sports, as well as the corresponding Open Hearts jewelry collection.

This beach is very popular with locals because it is so easily accessible and close to central Malibu. During the summer and holidays, you may not be able to get parking along side Malibu Road unless you arrive early in the morning. You'll find divers, beach strollers, and freedivers here because the underwater life is magnificent. Caution needs to be highly exercised like all beach dives due to strong surf and currents. When in doubt, don't.

Old Malibu Road Dive Areas
It is one of the easiest Malibu beach dive spots in terms of access and shorter distance from your vehicle to the ocean. It also has a few stairs from the road to the beach. Come here for a semi-protected area that has shallow reefs full with lots of marine life and structure. You will find more reef and structure as you head toward the east. This is not a SMR, State Marine Reserve, so fishing and hunting is allowed during the season. Don't forget your current licenses - no exceptions!
