Is It Your Goal To Be Among the Top One Percent of All Instructors?

To become a PADI Course Director (aka Instructor Trainer) you need:
    • Attitude to succeed and keep going when discouraged.
    • Attitude to work hard at completing the requirements.
    • Attitude to keep learning and get better.
    • Attitude to help others who aren't doing as well.
    • Attitude to have serious fun during the pressure filled times.
    • Attitude.
    • Rock Solid Dive Skills & Knowledge
    • Strong, Demonstrable, Active Leadership Skills
And the following prerequisites are required to apply to PADI to attend a Course Director Training Course:
1. Teaching status PADI Master Instructor for six months.
2. PADI IDC Staff Instructor.
3. Completed one of the following options after becoming an IDC Staff Instructor:
a. Staff two complete IDCs; or
b. Staff one complete IDC; conduct one Assistant Instructor course; and staff one complete OWSI program; or
c. Conduct two Assistant Instructor courses and staff two complete OWSI programs.
4. Renewed Emergency First Response Instructor Trainer.
5. PADI Dive Center or Resort work experience.
6. 250 logged dives.
7. For 12 months before application:
a. Have no verified quality assurance complaints.
b. Conduct all levels of diver training consistent with PADI philosophy and as outlined in the PADI Instructor Manual and PADI Course Director Manual. Exceptions: Any modification to PADI courses or programs must have been based solely on logistical or environmental considerations and have been approved by a PADI Office.
c. Exclusively use the PADI System of diver education for recreational diver training including the various PADI student manuals, PADI Instructor Guides and Lesson Guides, Instructor Cue Cards or slates, videos, multimedia products, quizzes and exams, Recreational Dive Planner, flip charts and/or workbooks, as available.
d. Issue only PADI certifications to student divers completing recreational diver training.  Exceptions: Student divers referred from other certification organizations for completion of entry-level training or certain technical, commercial and other course not currently offered by PADI.
8. Within 12 months of application:
a. Score 83 percent in each of the required Dive Theory Exams.
b. Score 85 percent on the PADI System, Standards and Procedures Exam.
c. Organize or lead (and return data for) a Project AWARE activity or event.
9. Meet other requirements as listed on the current application
