Corral Canyon Beach

Corral Canyon Beach

County Beach - Good Beginner Dive Areas

Considered a California County public beach, it is a 1 mile stretch of beach between two areas on PCH, Pacific Coast Highway - Puerco Canyon Road to the north and Corral Canyon Road to the south. Corral Canyon Beach is also sometimes referred to as Dan Blocker Beach to the east and Solstice Canyon to the west end. Latigo beach is to the west and Old Malibu Road to the east.

This beach is very popular with tourists and locals because it is so easily accessible.  During the summer and holidays, you may not be able to get parking along side PCH unless you arrive early in the morning or late at night.  You'll find divers, surfers, and freedivers here because the underwater life is magnificent.  Caution needs to be highly exercised like all beach dives due to strong surf and currents.  When in doubt, don't.

Corral Canyon Dive Areas

Corral Canyon, is one of the easiest Malibu beach dive spots in terms of access and shorter distance from your vehicle to the ocean. It also has a few stairs from the highway to the beach. Come here for a protected area that has shallow reefs full with lots of marine life and structure.  You will find more reef and structure as you head toward the direction of Point Dume.  This is not a SMR, State Marine Reserve, so fishing and hunting is allowed during the season. Don't forget your current licenses - no exceptions!

 Corral Canyon Beach

There are two areas that are generally dived.
Area 1 is closest to the beach homes near Corral Canyon Rd.  Legally park as close as possible to the No Parking Sign along PCH so you have easy access to the stairs. Straight out from the beach steps there is a rocky area. Walk the extra 100 feet to the right (facing the ocean) toward the homes and avoid the rocky entry and exits.  Kick out to the kelp beds from there about 500-600 feet and begin your dive in a SW direction; long shore currents are usually running west to east, but do check the direction before you begin your dive.

Area 2 is across the street from Malibu Seafood Patio Cafe.  This dive area is closest to the beach but the reef is not as plentiful.  It offers convenience to the ocean with a less rocky entry and exit and a walk across the street to the Cafe.  Smaller reefs to the east and west are available but given the choice, go to Area 1 for the better marine life and structure.
