New Year's Resolution to Exercise: Start With Exciting Dive Adventures

Scuba Diving as New Year's Resolution

Los Angeles, CA – January 3, 2014 – According to a recent study, these resolutions are among the top 10 that people make this time of year. Also cited was that “people who explicitly make resolutions are 10 times more likely to attain their goals than people who don’t explicitly make resolutions.” How many times have you made a resolution? One of the reasons people quit is that they fail to make a clear well-defined plan. So, why not start your New Year's resolution to plan more exercise with a fun and exciting sport? Start your New Year with scuba diving and potentially achieve your intentions.

Scuba diving is a relaxing sport and is beginner friendly. You will be diving, which is great exercise for your entire body. Your exercise will be focused on your legs, glutes, core, and back. You can experience the benefits of strength and cardio training without the strain of a typical workout. It's a low-impact sport that does not exasperate knee issues.

You will be burning calories. The average scuba diver burns .053 calories per minute per pound. That means if you weigh 180 pounds, for 30 minutes of bottom time you will burn 286 calories. With most sports, it matters who is bigger and stronger, but not in diving. The pace in scuba diving is slow, so size and strength are not an issue.

Diving is also a social exercise since you are diving with a buddy. Scuba diving is enjoyed by millions of people all over the world. Your buddy can be anyone from 10 years old and up, who is in reasonable good health and a level of fitness. You will both be able to enjoy the quiet, the peace, and the excitement together. The best part is that while diving underwater, you will be so fascinated with what you see that you won't know you are exercising.

Still not sure about scuba diving as the answer for your New Year's resolution? You can try scuba (also known as Discover Scuba Diving) at the Pepperdine pool on January 12 to decide if it is for you. From there you can go on to start your scuba training.
